Driver license points are assessed on your driving record if you are convicted of certain motor vehicle violations. These are separate from Insurance Points that measure and determine the percentage that your rate will increase if you are convicted of certain motor vehicle violations. We strongly advise against just paying off your citation. This is an admission of guilt, and will usually result in you receiving points on your license and also insurance points. You risk suspending your own license by doing so, and in many situations it is preventable, or can be prepared for by having a limited driving privilege ready so that you are at least able to continue driving for life's necessities like getting back and forth to work.
